Annular Eclipse of the Sun

An annular eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are exactly in line with the Earth, but the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the Sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the dark disk of the Moon.

The major difference between the Annular eclipse and total eclipse is that the rays of light at umbra region intercept before it reaches the surface of the earth.

The sun is covered in this condition, leaving a bright ring round the edge of the moon.

Annular eclipse gives astronomers the opportunity to study the outer part(corona) of the sun .
