When a mass is attached to a suspended spring, and the mass is pushed downward, and then released, it experience a simple harmonic motion.

Let the mass be hung in equilibrium position from the lower end of the spring as shown above. The other end of which is firmly clamped to a rigid support.

The mass perform simple harmonic motion in as much the spring still obey hooke’s law

 

 

The Period T of the oscillation of mass m attached to the spring is given by

Where k is the elastic constant and m is the mass of the bob attached to the spring
